Outside of family and friends, I have had two enduring passions- airplanes and photography. Through my college years, the two ran neck-and-neck, but family responsibilities shifted priorities to career, with photography left for special occasions. I was lucky enough to spend over thirty years as an aerospace engineer working on fast jets. Over the past ten years, I have had the good fortune to be able to attend international air shows throughout the world. This has allowed me to expand my photographic horizons beyond anything that I could have hoped for.
These aerospace trade shows combine my two passions in an almost ideal mix- aerospace technology to be recorded in my photos. I have stood under the tail of an Il-76 waiting for the first public appearance of the Indian LCA. I have watched a Pakistani firepower demonstration at Karachi Harbor. The sight and sound of a squadron scramble of Spitfires at Duxford to start Flying Legends is beyond description. However, my most enduring air show memory is always looking down the half-mile static line at Paris. I always remember Howard Carter's answer when asked what he was seeing as he first looked into Tut's tomb- "wonderful things".
