Roy Hinds developed his passion for photography over two decades and has had an interest in aviation since he was invited onto the flight deck of a Boeing 707 as a small boy. He originally intended to train as a flight engineer, but a hearing defect precluded him from securing a class one medical.
He subsequently qualified as electronics engineer and worked in the late 80’s and 90’s in the IT sector. After much deliberation he elected to return to collage and gained a Master’s degree in Air Transport Management from City University. He subsequently joined the management team of a small regional airport, and became involved in organising an air show, which rejuvenated his interest in photography.
He now runs his own aviation consultancy AV8Services, which specialises in business development and marketing for the aviation sector, including the provision of photography. In addition to his aviation photography, he undertakes general commercial assignments and event photography, notably at polo matches.
He lives near Tunbridge Wells in the garden of England (Kent) but travels extensively. He is also a full member of the Royal Aeronautical Society and has lectured on aviation at Cranfield University.
