IN TRIBUTE TO GEORGE HALL 1941-2006
George Hall, for over twenty years the principal still photographer aboard Clay Lacy Astrovision missions, passed away suddenly on April 20 following heart surgery.
George traveled the world with Clay doing Astrovisions; he recently estimated that he'd done over six hundred flights. He perfected the difficult art of making clean, crisp photographs through the Astrovision Learjet’s small windows and twin periscopes.
In 1968, George quit his job as an urban planner and began specializing in aircraft photography. He liked to quip that he hadn't worked a day since.
He published photography books on subjects from blimps to Top Gun; founded the Check Six and Code Red stock photography agencies; produced the annual Air Power calendar; wrote two novels; put together the PlanePix aviation web gallery; and—his most lasting legacy—mentored dozens of aspiring aviation photographers.
In recognition of George's talent and selfless leadership, the International Society of Aviation Photographers awarded him its 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award.
He is survived by his wife, Nicky Wolf.
